Bohemian 2 Derry City 3

Image
On Friday we were over in Dublin and it's always a pleasure to go there and go to Dalymount and watch a game and have a few drinks in the bar. This was a really enjoyable evening and just like last time we were here there were plenty of goals. Unfortunately, Bohs are looking shaky defensively and after losing to runaway leaders and bitter rivals Shamrock Rovers the week before, some bad decision making and poor keeping by Taidhg Ryan gave Derry City the win. Most of the early pressure and possession throughout the game came from Bohs, but you always felt that the two banks of defenders and good organisation of Derry could see them hit Bohs on the break. Heading to the break Bohs were in the driving seat, but Joe Thomas hit Bohs on the break to give Derry a 1-0 lead going into half time. The second half carried on in much the same way as the first half with Bohs trying to break down a resolute Derry side. It was going to take something spectacular to beat the Derry men's defenc...

Missing Trips #9 - Part 1 - Ireland May / June 2019 - Bohemians 5 Finn Harps 3

quite often when I go on these trips the game that I choose seems short on action and goals, but not in this case. This was a really fine match, that I had expected Bohs to win, but perhaps not in this style. I had expected a comfortable win for Bohs as Finn Harps were struggling at the time, so when Kevin Devaney opened the scoring for the home team in the first minute, I'd expected the floodgates to open. However, the sides were all square after just 3 minutes when Niall Logue found an equaliser for Finn Harps. Ryan Swan put Bohs back in the lead just before the half hour mark and that was how it stayed until after half time.  We had expected Bohemians to go on to win the game in the second half, but Rafaelle Cretaro sewed the seeds of doubt when he got an equaliser for Harps just after the break. Bohemians soon pulled away with a second goal for Swan, Mandroiu and Keith Ward before Daniel O'Reilly got another goal for Finn Harps right at the end. A great night at a great c...

Club focus -- Bohemian Football Club

Image
Bohemian Football Club are often known as Bohemians and shouldn't be mixed up with the several clubs in the Czech Republic who lay claim to the legacy of the Czech team Bohemians. Apart from anything else the Czech team wore green and white, which is the colour of Shamrock Rovers who are the Bohs' fiercest rivals. Bohs wear red and black stripes and are based in the North Side of Dublin, where as Shamrock are based in the South of the City. However, Bohs have fans all over the city and indeed all over the country. Mind you they've moved grounds that many times it's no wonder they have a fan base all over Ireland and it could account for their other nickname of the Gypsies. Bohemian FC are the 3rd most successful club in Ireland with an impressive 7 Football Association of Ireland cup wins, 6 League of Ireland titles and 3 League of Ireland cup victories. They are also the most succesful Irish team in terms of victories in Europe, although this season they went out in th...
