 I went to this game on Saturday expecting an away win, so I was pleasantly surprised when Posh registered an emphatic victory. It's been a tough season for Posh who up until a couple of weeks ago were flirting with the relegation places. Charlton on the other hand are more or less definitely in the playoffs, but before Saturday were more hopeful of getting automatic promotion. Peterborough also have a cup final in the Football League Trophy against Birmingham coming up and they have been distracted leading to these cup finals before. Charlton looked keen to get off to a fast start and Luke Berry came close to scoring for the visitors after just three minutes. However, after that it felt like it was all Posh.  This was my first ever trip to the Valley and I have to say I thought that it was quite a nice stadium. The day was slightly spoiled by having to get the coach down rather than going down to London and enjoying making a day and evening of it. Charlton and Cambridge are roughly in the same position in the league, but whereas despite a drubbing of Cheltenham in midweek Cambridge's results have been sliding whereas after a change at the top Charlton have improved. Charlton started off the brighter of the two teams and Cambridge were made to pay for a sluggish start when ex-Posh player Connor Washington (who also featured prominently throughout the programme fired home for the Addicks on the half hour mark. Yesterday I went to London Road for the fourth time to see Peterborough take on Charlton Athletic. At the start of the day both of the teams were in a play off position. Peterborough had started off the season well, but have lost their way since being thoroughly beaten by Brighton and the absennce of George Boyd after a sending off in that game. Conversely, Charlton seemed to start the season off badly, but improved after being beaten comprehensively by Brighton a few weeks back. A trip to London Road though usually guarantees a few goals and looking on TV and from the odd occasion I have made the joutney there most of the goals go in in the London Road End, so I was looking forward to a bit of a goal fest right in front of where I was standing and I wasn't disappointed in that sense. There has been a trend for a lot of clubs to upgrade their nicknames to sound harder. For example, the Biscuitmen of Reading are now the Royals and the Robins of Charlton are the valiants and the Glass boys of Crystal Palace are the Eagles. Unlike Eagles Robins are not hard, as although Ely still have a Robin on the badge, Swindon, Charlton, Cheltenham and Bristol City have all got rid of the Robins from their badges. Charlton Athletic have had the current badge with the hand holding the sword since 1968, although the original idea for the design was first announced in 1963 when it won a competition held by the club and they have had a similar design since this date. The original badge had the letters CAFC in the shape of the diamond, but after World War 2 chose a Robin design, which they wore in the 1946 defeat to Derby in the FA Cup Final.
