football rambles

Superb performances from Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn gave Villa victory that was made even sweeter as Man United lost ground on Villa. Luiz was on a mission, Bailey couldn't be stopped, Watkins was always finding the right position and McGinn was all over the pitch fighting for possession.  Villa found the back of the net after just 4 minutes when Bailey's trickery left the Forest defence wheeling and Watkins peeled off the final defender to shoot home in front of the Holte End to give Villa an early lead. From this point on Forest looked in disarray. The second goal came after 29 minutes and again came from an attack down Forest's left-hand side. Cash this time went through the defence before finding Ramsey who then set up Douglas Luiz for his second. Villa weren't done though and 2 soon became 3 when yet another attack down that side saw McGinn cross the ball for Luiz to head home his second and give Villa a three goal cushion before 40 ...

On Saturday Peterborough's short sojourn in the Championship came to an end as they were relegated back to League 1. At the other end of the table, the victory gave Forest hope that their long stay in the second tier might be coming to an end as they kept pace with the Premiership chasing teams. It was a fairly decent performance for Posh in a game in which they were expected to be dominated by Forest. Forest did get the winner when Sam Surridge converted just before halftime. It was a tough blow for Posh who on the day were equal to Forest, but whose problem has been the lack of a forward who can compete at this level. Fair play to Forest because they were also missing some of their firepower, but the gap between the two clubs didn't seem as big as the league table suggests, at least on this performance.

Forest clear twice under pressure from the Posh.

Joel Lynch wins yet another free kick.

Dexter Blackstock lurks behind the Posh players as Forest get ready to take a free kick.

Coming up... some photos from Peterborough v Forest by Nadiya.

Yesterday the Easter football continued when we went to London Road to see Peterborough take on Nottingham Forest in the Championship. When I bought the tickets Forest were in dreadful form, so I had been looking forward to seeing Posh beat one of my least favourite teams of yesteryear. A lot of neutrals don't seem to have anything against Forest, but back when they were good they always seemed to annoy me. First they always seemed to win from a dubiously won free kick that was put in by Stuart Pearce after another Forest player pushed over someone in the wall to make a gap. If it wasn't that it would be a dodgy penalty. Then there was the appalling treatment of away fans who were kept behind for hours and generally treated like crap and their total flaunting of ticketing rules. Oh, and they are a bunch of scabs. I had totally forgotten about these prejudices, but they all came flooding back yesterday. Apart from running into their obnoxious fans on trains and in town their tea...
