King's Lynn Town 4 Merthyr Town 0

It was a long journey for Merthyr and one that wasn't without issues, as the game was delayed for three quarters of an hour due to 'traffic issues'.

It probably wasn't the best preparation for the team from Wales, who seemed to not be entirely warmed up properly, but also that shouldn't detract from an impressive performance from the Linnets, who you feel like it was only a matter of time before they got a result like this. In preseason it looked like Michael Gyasi could be the answer to Lynn's problems and he proved this to be the case today. Two well-taken goals in the 17th and 21st minute set the home team on their way. In both cases Gyasi did most of the hard work but Morgan Williams also piked up two assists. Merthyr proved to be a danger on the counter attack, but the other main chance of the half fell to Lynn's Joe Nyahwema, who fired slightly wide from a thunderbolt shot.

Merthyr started off the second half with more intent and had a good chance to pull one back in the opening minutes. However, Gyasi came close to getting a hattrick, before turning provider when Reece Hall Johnson made it 3-0. The game then became quite scrappy and a touchline skirmish saw the Lynn manager and Merthyr assistant manager both seeing red.

If it was ever in doubt the Linnets finished off the job when Ross Cane made it 4 from a close range shot.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come for the new look Linnets. They have shown some signs of this form before, but this really was the performance that we had been waiting for.
