End of May play list
Plenty of familiar bands got a play over the month of May and with the Stone Roses concert coming up and tickets for Happy Mondays in November in the bag there was a decidedly retro feel to what I have been playing recently.
1 The Stone Roses - This is the one
The version that appears on Garage Flower.
2 Рубль – Люовь - это...
More plays over the month for St.Petersburg foul-mouths 'Rouble'. The missing word in the title seems to be their favourite word. If you know Russian you can probably guess what it is.
3 Happy Mondays - W.F.L.
If you have a blast of the Roses you should probably have a blast of the Mondays too. Told you it had been a nostalgic month.
4 Kraftwerk - Tour de France
My favourite track by the grandads of techno.
5 Swervedriver - Rain Down
They were never my favourites from that scene, but I have grown to quite like them over the last month.
6 Curve - Chinese Burn
From the same era as Swervedriver, one of those bands I sometimes like to listen to and other times can't be bothered with. This month I listened to quite a few female vocalists from the early to mid 90s, but none as much as Curve.
7 Ellen Allien - Stadkind
Everyone's favourite Berlin techno musician and DJ. Well, mine anyway.
8 Ляпис Трубецкой – Ася
A relatively recent song from a band I listened to all the time in Moscow. Answers on a postcode for why I chose this one.
9 Buffalo Tom - Birdbrain
Like Swervedriver I never really got into them when they were at their peak, but they have been growing on me lately.
10 Сплин - Выхода нет
A classic from another band from St.Petersburg who seem to feature frequently in these playlists.
11 The Wonder Stuff - Circlesquare
Another band from back in the day who have had a lot of recent plays.
12 Orbital - Stringy Acid
The early pioneers of techno returned to form with Wonky last year and I've been playing a lot of their tracks from back in the early days and more recent stuff. This track comes from the Wonky album.
13 Aphex Twin - Heliosphan
Another early pioneer of techno.
