Turon Yaypan - Uzbekistan Super League 2021

Turon are newcomers to the Super League and it really is hard to find much information on them. They come from the town of Yaypan, which has a population of about 16,000. Having watched their recent home game against Lokomotiv it looked like most of the town were in the stadium and the noise that they made sounded like double that. with a draw and two losses in their opening gams, it would be brilliant to see what the atmosphere is like when they actually win a game.

The game against Lokomotiv was especially exciting, although they surrendered a 2 goal lead and centre back Vladimir Kosmynin had an especially eventful game. After firing in Toran's second as early as the 11th minute, he was given his marching orders in the 68th after intentionally handling the ball in the box. Loko got their second from the penalty that ensued.

They gained promotion to the Super League this season after being founded in 2017. They seem to have brought in what is pretty much a completely new squad.

Players to watch: Usually, I pick out some club legend, but with a new squad this isn't easy and could be just the same as the new signing. However, the erstwhile Vladimir Kosmynin seems to be capable of making games exciting by being completely brilliant or completely useless. He's 31 years old and seems to have played for every Belarusian side. He's spent the last 3 years bouncing around Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and doesn't seem to have ever spent more than one year at a club! One player to watch for the right reasons is Kwame Karikawi, who has been brought in as a centre forward, but looks more like a second striker. He looks like he could be decent once he has settled. The former Under 20 Ghanaian international is now 29. He's a well travelled player and played in various Nordic, East European, Middle Eastern and Central Asian leagues. He signed from Egyptian side Enppi. He hasn't really pushed on though since he was at AIK in sweden between 2012 and 2014. Maybe this time he will take his chance.

Star signing: Attacking midfielder Sinisa Babic who signed from Proleter Novi Sad has the weight of expectation on his shoulders.

Foreign Legion: Along with the aforementioned 3 players there is also 32 year old Serbian and former under 19 Bosnian international Dajan Ponjevic. He signed very recently from Serb side FK TSC and despite being a left-back marked his debut with a goal. Captain of the team is Umardzhon Sharipov, who plays in midfield and at 20 is a very young captain. He comes from over the border in Tajikistan and signed from Khatlon, who ran Istiklol close in the league over there last season.
