King's Lynn Town 1 Harborough Town 1

 Saturday saw the competitive football return with a very new look Linnets team taking on newly promoted Harborough Town. From the first look, I am expecting to see a lot of goals at the Walks this season (that's probably gone and cursed it), as attacking they look like they could be a force, although I thought they did look a bit vulnerable in defence. 

The game almost got off to a lightening start when Tom Scott hit the post in the opening two minutes with a thunderous shot. Jesse Nwabueze also came close in the opening 10 minutes and was only denied by a spectacular save. However, on 13 minutes, it was Harborough who took the lead. A defensive mix up saw O'Sullivan for the visitors find space to rifle them into the lead.

Lynn battled hard to get back on level terms and Jahmari Lindsay went close before the break. However, Harborough came closer to doubling their lead only to be denied by a Ronnie Hollingshead super save.

The second half saw Harborough trying to take advantage of through set pieces and balls high in the box, something that they must have perceived as a weakness for Lynn. Nevertheless, in the 55th minute Lynn finally had an equaliser when a clever little move saw Aaron Jones set up Nwabueze for a shot from a tight angle that he happily buried in the net.

After this, it was all Lynn and it was surprising that they didn't get a winner with Nwabueze, Kwame Thomas and Tom Scott all having chances to win the game.

So, not a bad start for a team that are one of the favourites for relegation. I think that a forward line like the one they have will see plenty of goals once they click. That is hoping that they all stay together, as it was similar last season and then they were all shipped off at Christmas. That said they will face much sterner tests than today and will need to tighten the defence.

I have to say I'm getting a bit sick of how important the premiership and the Champions League have become at the detrement to everything else. We've had the Arsenal kids in the League Cupfor years and now it appears that the FA Cup doesn't matter to anyone who has the slightest chance of being relegated or getting promoted or into Europe aren't interested. This week we also ad Villa and Spurs treating the UEFA Cup with disdain. Therefore, it comes as a bit of a surprise that the clubs in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup take it so seriously. It isn't across the board in all non league competitions, as several clubs field weaker sides even for trophy games. In the Cambrdgeshire Invitation Cup first we had the Shelford epic and then a hard fought game at Soham. Meanhile CRC who are in the final and have been taking the competition seriously, and on Tuesday Ely play Cambridge City, who are regular winers of the competition.

The History of Hamburg SV

This week I bought the retro Hamburg SV shirt (the blue one pictured above), which was perhaps a bit of a strange purchase as they are in the same group as Villa in the UEFA Cup, but it's a good shirt and they seem like a decent bunch, although i might not be saying that next month. The 'Bundesliga Dinosaurs' are the only club to have played in every season of the Bundesliga since its inception in 1963. They were formed as an athletics club in 1887 when Der Hohenfelder and Wandsbek Marienthaler came together to form Sports club Germania, they started playing football in 1891 after having it introduced to them by some Englishmen. After World War I Sports Club Germania, Hamburg FC and FC Falke found themselves in a weakened position and decided to get together and form Hamburg SV. shirt history AS Roma

Roma were the club that I followed in Italy and although they are most famous for wearing red and yellow, hence the nickname giallo rosso the club didn't always wear those colours. AS Roma were formed in 1927 by a merger between SS Alba-Audace and Fortitudo-Pro Roma SGS with Italo Foschi being the driving force behind the merger. AS Roma could also trace their lineage back to FBC Roma who were formed in 1901 and who wore red and yellow, but the first shirts they wore took the red, white and blue of Fortitudo-Pro Roma. Roma soon established themselves at the top table of Italian football and in 1931 finished runners up to Juventus and by now had settled on red and yellow as their colours.
