FC Peterborough 3 Biggleswade United 2

Preseason got off to an early start this year as FC Peterborough (formerly known as North Star) took on Biggleswade United in a friendly at the Millfields Autoparts Stadium out in the Dogsthorpe area of Peterborough.

It was a pretty hot day (as it should be at the end of June) and attracted groundhoppers missing their live fix from all over. I spotted some from Corby, Cambridge, Doncaster and Leicester and there were probably a few from other places too. It was a pretty decent sized crowd. The entry was free, so they could have made a decent amount of cash if they had charged.

The teams were, from what I can make out, pretty experimental. I think from what the linesman was saying and one of the crowd that the teams started off with a mixture of first and second teamers and got more experimental as the game went on.

It was a very entertaining game. Biggleswade took the lead, but were penned back to 2-1 at half time. Peterborough extended their lead at the start of the second half when the substitute centre forward rounded the goalkeeper. Biggleswade managed to pull one back with a wonder strike shortly afterwards. The visitors pushed for an equaliser, but eventually Peterborough ran out the winners.

It was a great way to start preseason and a really good day out. Sometimes I wish I had moved to Peterborough with its 3 teams all of whom are pretty welcoming.
