Peterborough Sports 1 Boston United 2

Some of the leagues kicked off this weekend, and I was tempted to try somewhere new but in the end returned for what seems like an annual visit to Peterborough Sports as they took on Boston United in a friendly.  Sports will take their place once again in the National League North next season, whereas Boston one promotion to the Premier. Boston got off to a good start when after 5 minutes they took the lead through a bullet from Tony Weston, who is on loan from Derby County. The lead didn't last long though as Dan Jarvis equalised 6 minutes later. It seemed like this might signal one of those pre-season goal fests. However, it wasn't to be. In the second half Weston struck again to give the Pilgrims the victory.  Obviously, the teams were still experimenting a bit, but a bit less now the season draws closer. I thought that Sports played pretty well and Weston really was the one who made the difference

Fisher FC 2 Dulwich Hamlet 2

Saturday saw us take a trip down to London to watch Fisher take on Dulwich in Bermondsey before going to watch the England game in a pub in Elephant and Castle. The England game was pretty dire with England getting to the semifinals on penalties but the Fisher game was entertaining. Fortunately, there were some sunny spells during the game, as we spent most of our time getting to the ground in torrential rain. The beer that they had on by local brewery was Anspach and Hobday was fantastic. It probably wasn't the best idea to try every 'flavour' but it's too late now. As for the game it was another one of those friendlies that was a game of two halves. Literally. Both teams started and finished with a mixture of regular players and trialists, it was just it was a different 11 each half. The first half belonged to Fisher who scored 2 well taken goals to go in at halftime with a well deserved two goal lead. In the second half the game was turned on its head as Dulwich Ham

FC Peterborough 3 Biggleswade United 2

Preseason got off to an early start this year as FC Peterborough (formerly known as North Star) took on Biggleswade United in a friendly at the Millfields Autoparts Stadium out in the Dogsthorpe area of Peterborough. It was a pretty hot day (as it should be at the end of June) and attracted groundhoppers missing their live fix from all over. I spotted some from Corby, Cambridge, Doncaster and Leicester and there were probably a few from other places too. It was a pretty decent sized crowd. The entry was free, so they could have made a decent amount of cash if they had charged. The teams were, from what I can make out, pretty experimental. I think from what the linesman was saying and one of the crowd that the teams started off with a mixture of first and second teamers and got more experimental as the game went on. It was a very entertaining game. Biggleswade took the lead, but were penned back to 2-1 at half time. Peterborough extended their lead at the start of the second half when
