Thwarted and my season ends

Well, it looks like that might be me done until Dunfermline take on St. Pauli in June. I had been hoping to get to see Posh in the play-off final, but despite a great first leg where they humbled Sheffield Wednesday 4-0, they only went and lost the second leg 5-1 (which was something that I had predicted) and then went out on penalties. At least it gave the Cambridge admin a laugh and Wednesday have been a lot more consistent over the season as a whole.  Anyway, if you are into music I am doing some stuff now and again at earworm0.blogspot.com and here is the playlist that was used for the awaydays throughout this season: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/77ijBpT83nezuTNpHNbAZz

Cambridge United 2 Forest Green Rovers 0

What an end to the season. Before April it looked like Cambridge were destined for relegation, a good run of games meant that they gave themselves a chance of staying up, but a defeat in midweek to Burton meant that Sunday saw them needing to beat Forest Green and that neither MK Dons or Morecambe could get a result. Forest Green who had already finished bottom meant Cambridge were hopeful for the win, but the other permutations made it look like a difficult task. Added to that you never know which version of Cambridge is going to turn up. Fortunately, it was the good Cambridge that took to the pitch. Harrison Dunk, who as a defender doesn't have a massive reputation for scoring seems to keep on getting goals and he managed to get the ball over the line in a bit of a scramble on 25 minutes.  It was 2 before halftime when Sam Smith doubled the lead with a fantastic strike. Before the ball went in it looked so much like it was going to go over that he looked away in disappointment,

King's Lynn Town 2 Curzon Ashton 0

A bumper crowd gathered at the Walks on Saturday hoping to see the Linnets secure promotion to the National League Premier. They needed a win, but needed struggling Bradford Park Avenue to get a result against Fylde. Lynn kept up their side of the bargain with a comfortable win over Curzon  Ashton, however Fylde also won 2-0 and Bradford were sent down. Curzon Ashton were Cambridge's opposition in the FA Cup in one of the worst games I have ever been to earlier in the season. That finished 0-0, so at least when Gold Omatoya scored on 12 minutes Lynn had achieved something that Cambridge didn't in  210 minutes - score against Curzon.  In truth it was a game that Lynn dominated and when Josh Barrett scored on 60 minutes, Lynn were really cruising. Unfortunately, after a dodgy patch that saw the Linnets lose their grip on the automatic promotion spot when they had one hand on it, they will now have the play-offs to contest. They may well be the favourites to win this, but I think
