Cambridge united 0 Curzon Ashton 0 (Cambridge 4-2 on penalties)

 Another day another 0-0 draw...

On Tuesday we went to see Cambridge take on Curzon Ashton in the FA Cup first round replay. The previous game between the two had finished 0-0 and then we witnessed Cambridge draw 0-0 on Saturday. However, our hopes that Cambridge would defeat a team in the 6th level of football and finally score some goals were swiftly dismissed.

The game 3 days earlier against Bolton had been an entertaining affair, but this wasn't. Cambridge dominated possession, but on the very rare occasion Curzon managed an attack they actually looked more like scoring. Cambridge passed the ball sideways until they eventually got in the position to send in an ineffective cross and that was about it.

In previous posts, I have called for the inclusion of Saikou Janneh and Sam Smith when they have been left out, but on this performance I can see why neither of them are starting league games.

18 shots and 8 on target, but none of them looked like going in. At least they finally put an end to Curzon on penalties, but I am kind of relieved I am away when Grimsby travel here for the second round. On to Accrington on Saturday, which looks like a 6 pointer.
