King's Lynn Town 2 Norwich City 1

 Saturday saw pre-season continue with King's Lynn taking on a young Norwich XI at The Walks. It was a good performance by the Linnets, although there were incidents that proved some of the issues that they had last season might persist in this one.

In the opening half hour King's Lynn were the stronger of the two sides. They were rewarded with a penalty on 3o minutes when the dynamic Jesse Nwabueze was brought down in the box. However, Carlton Ubaezuonu squandered the opportunity with a soft penalty. Something that was reminiscent of last season where Lynn were regularly disappointing from the spot.

Six minutes later the Canaries had the lead when Lynn were caught napping despite having most of the ball up until then - another trait that they need to curb. Ken Aboh giving the visitors the lead and it stayed like that until half-time. 

Lynn came out firing in the second half though and Nwabueze equalised on 51 minutes with a fantastic strike from distance. It was made all the more delicious, by the fact that some Norwich fans had been mocking him shortly before when he got nutmegged. He definitely had a way of quietening them in a game where he deservedly was awarded man of the match.

The game ebbed and flowed for most of the rest of the second half, but Lynn found a winner in the last minute, when Kwame Thomas, who had signed for the club 24 hours before popped up to head home a winner.

It'll be interesting to see how Lynn progress this season. As usual there have been a lot of changes on the playing front and it remains to be seen if they can keep the team together for a whole season. There were however some encouraging signs, but also some frailties that were present last season.

I have to say I'm getting a bit sick of how important the premiership and the Champions League have become at the detrement to everything else. We've had the Arsenal kids in the League Cupfor years and now it appears that the FA Cup doesn't matter to anyone who has the slightest chance of being relegated or getting promoted or into Europe aren't interested. This week we also ad Villa and Spurs treating the UEFA Cup with disdain. Therefore, it comes as a bit of a surprise that the clubs in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup take it so seriously. It isn't across the board in all non league competitions, as several clubs field weaker sides even for trophy games. In the Cambrdgeshire Invitation Cup first we had the Shelford epic and then a hard fought game at Soham. Meanhile CRC who are in the final and have been taking the competition seriously, and on Tuesday Ely play Cambridge City, who are regular winers of the competition.

Boca Juniors shirt history

The first game that I will be at on Sunday sees Boca Juniors take on Paris Saint Germain. I have always wanted to go and see Boca Juniors and I can't see me getting over to Argentina any time in the near future, so I am going to have to make do with seeing them in North London. On my travels I have met plenty of Boca fans, but funnily enough they have all been Russian or Ukrainian. I am a bit disappointed that Martin Palermo has now retired, but I am still looking forward to it. Obviously to do justice to the club history of Boca Juniors I'd probably have to write a book, so here's a quick history of their kit and colours instead. When Boca were formed in 1905 they originally played in pink, but obviously came round to thinking that this was a bad idea and changed to a light blue colour later in the year. The History of Hamburg SV

This week I bought the retro Hamburg SV shirt (the blue one pictured above), which was perhaps a bit of a strange purchase as they are in the same group as Villa in the UEFA Cup, but it's a good shirt and they seem like a decent bunch, although i might not be saying that next month. The 'Bundesliga Dinosaurs' are the only club to have played in every season of the Bundesliga since its inception in 1963. They were formed as an athletics club in 1887 when Der Hohenfelder and Wandsbek Marienthaler came together to form Sports club Germania, they started playing football in 1891 after having it introduced to them by some Englishmen. After World War I Sports Club Germania, Hamburg FC and FC Falke found themselves in a weakened position and decided to get together and form Hamburg SV.
