Norwich City 2 Blackburn Rovers 0

This turned out to be a fairly entertaining game, but mainly due to the second half rather than the very scrappy first half.

Recently  Blackburn have been edging closer to the relegation zone and Norwich have picked up some form to escape from it. The result today saw the Canaries climb further away from it and Rovers  confounded to the relegation places.

Both sides cancelled each other out in the first half with the best chance falling to Norwich when Hayden Carter came to the rescue for Rovers, heading the ball off the line and over after Ali Ahmed had set up Jacob Wright. In general, the Canaries had a lot more of the ball than Rovers but neither team made much use of it. Ex-Norwich player, Todd Cantwell tried to make some things happen for Rovers, but much to the joy of the home fans he was tackled every time he got the ball. The only chance that they created at all in the half was when Sondre Tronstad skied the ball over.

The second half saw Norwich come out an look a lot more commanding than a Blackburn side bereft of ideas. However, when top scorer Jovon Makama came off injured early on, it looked like they might struggle to find a winner. New signing Mohamed Toure came on to replace him.

Losing a striker was hardly ideas, but fortunately in Anis Ben Slimane, Norwich have a player in good goal scoring form. In the 72nd minute a venomous shot from substitute Oscar Schwartau beat Balazs Toth in the Rovers goal only to hit the post and come back out. Fortunately, Ben Slimane was alert to it and slotted home to give the Canaries the lead.

Four minutes later and the Canaries had doubled their lead with Toure marking his debut with a goal. Again it was a shot from Schwartau that did the original damage, this time forcing a save from the Blackburn keeper. However, he parried it rather than kept hold of it and Toure was there to pop home the rebound.

Norwich then saw the game out with Blackburn not really offering anything in terms of a goal threat and the Canaries ran out 2-0 winners.
