Peterborough United 2 Derby County 4

On Saturday we travelled up to London Road to see Posh take on Derby and although it started off looking good for Posh, things quickly went downhill.

Posh definitely started the game the brighter of the two and it was Johnson Clarke Harris who put the home team ahead on 23 minutes. At this point it looked like Posh would be comfortable and Derby who would be on the end of a beating. However, that was not to be the case and the trio of ex-Posh boy Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, ex-Villa man Conor Hourihane and Martyn Waghorn who set to put the home team to the cosh. Just before the half hour mark Waghorn struck. On 37 minutes the game was turned on its head when Hourihane and Mendez-Laing put together a move straight off the training ground with Mendez-Laing putting the ball on Cashin's head to give the Rams the lead.

By the 40th minute, it really did feel a long time since Posh had been in the lead and this goal really did sum up how the day was going for the home team. Mendez-Laing had a shot that was going wide, but somehow it hit Martyn Waghorn to go in and give Derby a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately for Posh, the Rams hadn't finished for the half and  Hourihane linked up with Waghorn for Derby's 4th and Waghorn's hat-trick.

The odd thing though was at halftime despite the Rams leading 4-1, you still felt that Posh, if they could run up some steam in the second half then they would still be able to get something from the game. Therefore it was a massive disappointment that instead of coming out the blocks, it was Derby who did most of the pressing in the first part of the second period. Posh did eventually find a way through the Rams and the subs, who were really introduced too late did make a difference. Poku got a late goal in the last minute, but it was too little too late and the Rams ran out 4-2 winners.

At least Usyk beat Dubois later on and I had a big win on the horses though!
