King's Lynn Town 2 Halifax Town 0

This was my first visit to a King's Lynn game since they beat York in January 2020 and despite the pandemic managed to get promoted to the National League Premier. A lot has happened personally and to the world since then, but Lynn are still in the league - just about. In this game Halifax came wanting to get closer to automatic promotion to the football league. They should definitely get play-offs. Lynn on the other hand are at the wrong end of the table and only a record points haul and a total capitulation by Aldershot could possibly save them. Therefore the win gave them a glimmer of hope and was a real turn up for the books. The first half belonged to Halifax and they could have been 2-0 up at halftime, if it wasn't for an offside decision going against them and a bundled penalty. Lynn were the better team in the second half though and  went on to a surprise victory with goals from Josh Barret on 53 minutes and Gold Omatayo in stoppage time. A shock result for the Linnets

It was another defeat for the Us on Saturday, as they continue to run out of steam with one of the smaller and less experienced squads in the division. They have probably done enough to stay up this season, but I think it's a fair assessment that without investment next season could be a tricky one. However, this was a better performance than some of those of late, especially the 6-0 thrashing by Wednesday last week. To be honest, it was a decent enough performance from the Us, however they never really created anything remarkable and again I am left wondering if playing Sam Smith and Joe Ironside together can work and I do wonder why Wes Hoolahan started from the bench. The game was decided by Warren O'Hara on the hour mark. Another bonus was getting to see Kane Kesler Hayden on loan from Villa at the Dons, although he showed some flashes of why he is the heir apparent to Matty Cash, there were also some signs that he still has quite a bit to learn.  Well, that was a great day out in Sheffield that was ruined by the football.  A Lloyd Jones own goal on 6 minutes followed up by a decent strike by Barry Bannan meant that the Us were already 2-0 down after 10 minutes. Saido Berahino added two more before the break and when George Byers made it 5 as soon as the second half had started, it was looking like a cricket score. Berahino completed his hat-trick 3 minutes later and that's how it finished. 6-0 to Wednesday. Wednesday / Ukraine scarves outside the ground. Hillsborough memorial

There isn't a great deal to say about this game. The weather was dark and dreary and so was the game, as two teams who are staying up and don't have a great deal to play for already played out a stalemate. Joe Ironside was back for the Us, but I am wondering if they need to play just Sam Smith or just him to get the best out of either of the players. Shrewsbury could have won it at the end in what was probably the most disappointing game of the season so far.
