Scarf #28 Chernomorets Odessa / Chornomorets Odesa

The day I bought this was on a cold December day at the start of 2007 when Dynamo beat Chornomorets 5-2 at the Lobinovskiy Stadium. It was a very cold and snowy day and that cold that I needed two scarves and so I go this one. Another Chernomorets scarf (Novorossisk) had got thrown away so I thought this one would be a good replacement. Fast forward 13 years and I am wearing it on another cold December day, this time for Ely Crusaders though.

As you might notice, the name on the scarf is given as Chernomorets Odessa (Russian version) rather than Chornomorets Odesa (Ukrainian version). Odesa has always been a Russian speaking part of Ukraine and things like that weren't important then either.

I've always liked Chornomorets. The first time I saw them was against CSKA-2 on a secondary school field, which seemed quite sad for one of the famous names of Ukrainian football. They did make a comeback though and got a nice stadium for Euro 2012. However, they have been in a bit of a slump of late and at the end of last season, it was even suggested that Olimpik Donetsk might move to Odesa and take the name of Chornomorets to get an instant Premier League team. Thankfully, that didn't happen and Chornomorets got a cash injection of their own. At the time of the winter break this season, they're sitting top of the first league.
