Stuck in Ukraine

I am still in Ukraine, although I was supposed to return to England last Friday. It looks like I will be here for another week, but at least it means I'll be seeing more football here than I expected. I already have some great stories, so hopefully I'll get back in one piece and be able to update the site in a week or so.

You missed an excellent performance yesterday, against Wroxham, in the last home game of the season. Ely conceded a penalty early on, which was duly converted, making it look like the weather was the only good news to be had on the day. Things were pretty uneventful until after half-time, when Ely equalised not long after resuming. All looked set for a draw (which would have been acceptable on this very-sunny-4-pint-day), but a late winner made it a perfect day. Great team spirit throughout, and an excellent goal from the volatile Mr Mason were the highlights. We stayed behind after the game, making the most of the weather, cooling down with a couple more pints, and watching our kids kicking around on the pitch. A great day for an Ely supporter, and a league position that would have been wishful thinking back in November, under the previous management.

Sounds like a good day out and Ely really have had a good second part to the season. The weather has been good here too, which is one good thing as I've been fretting about work and wondering if my house in Ely is still there after all the time we've been away. At least I was able to hire a laptop here, so I have been able to keep up with work.

On Sunday I went to Obolon v Kryvbas. Kryvbas always seem to ruin my day and they didn't make an exception this time by winning 2-1 despite having been relegated weeks ago. At least the weather was good and the fact that Obolon is owned by a brewery meant I was able to get a few pints in at about 35p a throw.
