Ely City 2 Heacham 0

The second game of the bank holiday bonanza was Ely City v Heacham, which I think will probably be the last time that Ely City are my local team, although I might make it to the Sheringham game on Friday night. Ely went into the game not having won or scored in a league game in 2024. Heacham, who had started the season off well, have also been sliding down the table in recent weeks. However, despite the sun being out for the first time this year too, there wasn't much optimism in the stands that Ely would get the win or that the game would provide that much entertainment. The first half lived up to expectations in that nothing much happened and neither team really created anything. However, a keeper blunder early on in the second let Jack Friend give the hosts the lead. This helped Ely gain more confidence and later add on  a second also from Jack Friend.  A great performance in the second half by Ely, although there still needs to be some questions asked of how they lack confiden

Peterborough United 1 Carlisle United 3

In this Good Friday coming together, I don't think that anybody would have expected this result and I am sure that a fair few accas were ruined with this result.  Posh went into the game in good form and despite the recent loss to runaway leaders, Portsmouth that I recently went to have been on good form. They still look good for the play-offs and have a Wembley final to look forward to next week, but nobody would have expected a loss, never mind and emphatic loss to bottom of the league Carlisle.  I think that part of the problem was that Wembley final, as Posh didn't really look like they wanted to put a tackle in and the starting 11 yesterday probably expect to be the starting 11 next week. This was coupled with Poku and Mason-Clark uncharacteristically looking off form and being unable to get the ball to Malik Mothersille, who cut a lonely figure up front for the Posh. That said, nothing should be taken away from a great performance by the visitors who battled for everythi

Stansted 0 MK Irish 0

Before this game MK Irish seemed like a team that couldn't stop scoring and despite being lower mid-table Stansted had won their last four games and there had been plenty of goals in them. Therefore, I turned up expecting a goal-fest. How wrong I was! The first half was a fairly even affair with the one clear cut chance falling to the Irish that went just wide. The second half saw MK try and turn the screw and Stansted were under constant pressure. It didn't help that early in the half, the Stansted keeper, Charlie Turner injured his leg but played through the pain. In all honesty, he was definitely man of the match in what was a hard earned point for the Airport Army.

Peterborough United 0 Portsmouth 1

Peterborough are still in the play-offs and have a trip to Wembley to look forward to in a few weeks time. Portsmouth are top of League 1 and look a shoe-in for promotion.  In this game Pompey showed the type of luck or maybe just persistence that is needed to get promotion. It was an entertaining and evenly matched game, although personally I felt that Posh had the better chances. However, the game was settled on 77 minutes by a goal from Kusini Yengi

Thetford Town 2 Brantham Athletic 0

Image
A double from Cameron King gave Thetford a victory over Brantham Athletic on Saturday. Thetford started the game brightly but were unable to convert their chances. They didn't get the breakthrough however until after the break. Up until then there was always the concern that Brantham would get back into it. However, in the second half, Thetford never looked really seriously under threat and they finished off the game in the 81st minute.
